Dr Shruti Nathwani is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics. She completed a number of years as a Paediatric doctor and is now training to become a qualified GP.

She uses her Paediatric knowledge and experience as a mum to create content that parents can not only learn from but relate to. When you’re at home and unsure whether to take your child to the GP or Paediatric A+E there should be more guidance.

Happy due date baby girl 17/05/23 🌹

* Our Birth Story *

As some of you know, I was booked to have an elective c-section as Scarlett was termed ‘large for gestational age’ and because of my previous c-section which was for the same reason

We never made it to that booked section date and at the back of my mind I knew this would happen…

I remember asking my obstetrician what happens if I think I’m in labour and her saying get straight to the hospital ASAP

Well, when you’ve never been in labour before and you’re unsure of what it feels like it might take a nudge and a push from your mum and best friend @hdkhatri to get you to call the hospital

Turns out I was having light contractions for a few days prior and I thought it was just her head engaging

So mid morning on the 4th of May I was told by the midwife to attend the maternity assessment unit. A CTG was attached showing contractions and confirming I was in labour. 1 hour later I was taken for an emergency c-section.

The c-section itself was not smooth sailing despite have an excellent senior team operating on me. Due to my previous c-section, I had developed significant scarring and adhesions. The c-section was not quick and it took a while to meet our beautiful daughter. All the while, I was lying in theatre thinking something was going wrong and I wouldn’t wish that feeling upon anyone. Finally we met out beautiful Angel and all felt right in the world.

Later that day the obstetrician came to check on us and explained that if we were to consider having a 3rd child it would be a serious endeavour because of the scar tissue, we’d have to wait at least 2 more years and baby would need to be delivered early. That news was soul crushing and something we are still yet to process. For now we’re enjoying our newborn bubble and getting to know our little girl…

37 weeks pregnant and it’s that time for reflection and nesting! Time is moving slowly now but I’m happy you’re safe inside me still.

Growing you has been an absolute dream little bump or should I say big bump (> 97th centile) thanks to your 6ft 2 inch daddy…

My favourite part of the day is sitting down with you in the evening and feeling you move to my touch. It feels like you’ve already changed our lives.

The morning drive to work has been glorious when you respond to the music playing on the radio and I’m in awe that you can hear and move like that…

Today Jason said ‘ I want to be a girl so I can be a mummy to two babies.’ He thinks being a mummy is the best thing and he’s absolutely right.

We are all so excited to meet you and somewhat nervous at the same time but ever so grateful to have been through this journey with you so far…

Soaking in the last few weeks as a family of three. Watching my not so little boy growing rapidly before my eyes.

He’s been ‘looking after mummy’ by picking up absolutely everything off the floor, bringing me my shoes, grabbing me water and showering me with love.

If I’m strict with him, he says ‘but mummy I’ve been taking care of you so much.’ He takes his role so seriously and it seems he’s prepping for life as a big brother which is hugely adorable.

He’s also going through a lot of mood swings and being extra clingy with mummy. It’s not easy to decipher what is ‘normal’ 4 year old behaviour and if he’s feeling a certain way because a baby is on the way. We keep talking about our feelings, reassuring him and including him in all decisions baby related.

I’m not worried about if we have enough love to go around as this baby is already so loved. You definitely become a mummy from the moment you fall pregnant and start doing all you can for the little being growing inside of you.

Mother’s Day can be tough for so many people for so many reasons…
